Amsterdam Charter
The members of the RC of Epworth and the Isle of Axholme recently enjoyed their 2nd anniversary charter in Amsterdam. We were joined by guests from Grimsby Havelock, Thorne and Barton upon Humber Rotary clubs.
Members arrived by various means and stayed for variable amounts of time, but the overall verdict was that the weekend had been an enjoyable success, that should be repeated in a different European capital very soon. The weather was extremely kind to us and allowed everybody to explore Amsterdam in glorious sunshine on both Saturday and Sunday. One of the highlights of the weekend was a canal boat trip on Saturday lunchtime, with soup, sandwiches and a birthday cake (no-one could tell from the photos that President Tricia had dropped her camera into it moments earlier!)

The focal point of the weekend was our charter dinner, on Saturday night, at a typically Dutch restaurant. We were made extremely welcome by our hosts and given a private room. The food was excellent and the company extremely convivial. The wine list was, I understand, explored fully by many members of the party. President Tricia entertained us all with her rendition of "The Red Box" which involved a great deal of bobbing up and down by all ( particularly President-Elect Iain Hogg) under the eagle eye of Sergeant-at-Arms Ray Murphy and his glamorous assistant, Andrew Gatecliffe. The fines collected by the Sergeant-at-Arms and his assistant , for those who did not bob swiftly enough, amounted to in excess of £50 (and several dodgy foreign coins of no value!) He requested that this money be put into our ongoing club fund for Wheelchair Foundation. A visit to the wonderful flower market on Sunday morning means that many members of the club can proudly boast colourful displays of tulips in their gardens- a beautiful, lasting reminder of a memorable weekend. I also have it on good authority that one lady even went away with a diamond as a souvenir!
