Cycle Ride in aid of Wheelchair Foundation (Part 2)
aka Wheels for Wheels
(Written by Bronwen Gwyther )
Following Rtn Simon Cliff’s mammoth effort in fundraising to buy wheelchairs, dozens (well, several) more Rotarians from Epworth and Isle Club were persuaded to take the Isle Roads along with family and friends in order to raise still more money. So, on a balmy June morning, they set off for the eight mile trip around Belton. It was a tough ride and the hill outside Epworth took its toll, but succour was on hand in the form of President Tricia Barthorpe and Rtn Carol Walsh wielding first aid kits and water.
Forty minutes later they returned, followed closely by Rtn Bill Lennox from Rotary Club of Hull Paragon in a rearguard position.
The fundraising and fellowship was then extended throughout the afternoon with the good weather, lunch and a virtually non alcoholic Pimms being enjoyed by all.
Sponsorship money is still being collected but it is estimated that in excess of £500 was raised or in other words, another 10 wheelchairs.
